You are in journey. Your oil tank is almost empty. You need to find the nearest petrol station. But you are new to that place. And you can barely speak the local language. With Garmin Mobile, you can use an option called Points of Interest (POI). Just go to Where to? Menu. In the menu, the are several categories and sub-categories to help you find destinations. You can enter addresses, look up locations you recently found, and view locations you have saved.

1. From the main page, select Where to? > Points of Interest.
2. Select a category. To find a location by name, select Spell Name, enter all or part of the name, and then select the location you want.
3. Select a sub-category or select All Categories. A list of locations near your current location appears.
4. Select the location to open the information page.

Location of your house is important especially when you want to get home as fast as possible to watch your favorite movie. In other cases, you may want to know a shorter route to your house from office to minimize your fuel consumption.  In this tutorial, I will show you on how to set your house location using Garmin Mobile.

Set Home location

1. Before you set your home location, make sure you are located near to your house (Duh!)
2. You can set your home location by simply going to main page.
3. Select Where To? > Home
4. Select an option to select your home location (Make sure your device has detected GPRS satellite beforehand.)

Now you have set the location of your house. You can create a route to it by selecting Where To? > Home.

Changing Your Home location

Change your address? Or accidentally selected wrong location for your home? OMG! Big trouble! But don’t worry, you can change it.

1. From main page select Tools > Manage My Data > My Location
2. Select Home > Delete > Yes
3. Set your home as above.

This article will show you on how to install Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile Phone. Before that you have to make sure that you phone fulfilled all requirements for Garmin Mobile XT such as:

Computer requirement (for the installation purpose):

1. IBM-compatible PC running Windows XP or later operating system
2. USB port.

Phone requirement:

1. GPS (of course)
2. Storage card (Around 250MB, for core and map is sufficient, but it will be better if you have larger capacity)

First, you need to download the Garmin Mobile XT unit software. Download it here.

There are many type of unit software to be downloaded. You need to choose the file that suitable for your mobile phone; in this case you will need Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile. Agree with the Software License Agreement and download the software.

You will also need basemap and support file. Download it here.

Now, you already have all the 3 files. Plug in your USB and computer. Make sure that you are connected via Microsoft ActiveSync.

Run the unit software installer (in my case GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_5XXXXX.exe). Click “Setup”.

When the wizard asks where the installation directory is, choose “My Storage”.

Repeat the same procedure for both basemap and support file. Now, you’re done..?

No! Not yet. You need a map for your Garmin to be fully functional. You can easily get the map by buying from Garmin or other Garmin fan software for free.
